My funny and weird dream
This post is not about motivational topic, it’s about a dream I’ve had few days ago.
I had this dream of 2 Singapore celebrities, who were trying to ask me out. (ok ok, I know this will never ever happen in real life). Let’s call them A and B. However, I’m more interested in A because B is just too “manja” for me.
So B tried to ask me out for a number of times but I rejected. She then turned to my parents and tried to make them like her.
A on the other hand, made a move as well. She asked me to go her house and have dinner with her family. I agreed.
When I reached her house, I was asked the wait at the living room with her. She then asked “Alvin, do you notice any difference in my living room?”
I looked around – from the window, to the TV set, to the aquarium, and then the altar. And I stopped. On the altar, there were statues of several deities but there was something else. A and her family were praying something else with joss sticks.
It was a …..a can of luncheon meat. =_=
And yeah, I woke up 30 minutes before my alarm clock rang and said “What the heck was that?!”
Guess I must be feeling too excited for my new job next week.
p/s…. my blog was attacked by WordPress’ famous white screen of death due to a plugin upgrade. I’ve fixed it for now…and hopefully it won’t come back to haunt me.
Working for US project doesn’t mean you’re in US
Globalisation is no longer a buzzword or a new term….it’s already here for good. US manager and US client but Malaysia team. US client but China manufacturer. Japan designer, China manufacturer part A, Malaysia manufacturer part B and Vietnam manufacturer part C.
Well, you get the picture.
With the looming economy depression, more global projects will reach Malaysia. Pros n cons. We get more job opportunities + more frustration. These 2 come in pair.
Let me share with you some interesting behaviors:
- A friend of mine used to be a team leader for a US project. He was not supposed to be on shift but he helped the US folks to work till 10pm our time. Guess what, he got screwed the next morning because he did not reply to his manager’s email. The manager sent the email at 3am our time saying “Please call me back”.
- The other day, a UK colleague sent an email to me, asking me to switch on my SKYPE. It was 5am UK time and 12pm our time. I didn’t reply because that was our lunch time. I apologized and explained to him. He said it’s ok and he repeated that the following day.
- Tuesday, received an email to do A but no other information was given. Replied on the same day to seek for more clarification. Wednesday, received a big impolite email saying that the team in Malaysia is trying to delay the project and not willing to use common sense. =_= They forgot that by giving more info, they can help everyone considering the fact that US and Malaysia are 12 hours apart.
- And today, I heard from my friend who was working for a UK project. His project manager from UK sent an email at 6pm our time, requesting for an urgent meeting when most of the team members have already gone back home. The same manager told them to test something at 4.30pm our time, and must complete by end of the day but UK time.
All the above are OK if you’re prepared to do such things, such as shift or overtime work. But if you’re not…you’ll end up tired very very fast. A tired employee is an unhappy employee. And an unhappy employee will not last in a company for long.
Ah well, we shouldn’t complain so much. At least, we still have jobs and we’re not under tremendous pressure to perform….unlike in US or UK where retrenchment is becoming a normal thing.
ACA informing everyone how it cracked PUSPAKOM
The Anti Corruption Agency (ACA) has been doing a pretty good job so far. Some of you might say that ACA didn’t catch bigger fish….but I believe it is still a positive progress for them. Let’s just hope they can use the small fish which they’ve caught to lure the bigger fish into the net.
But based on the posting which I came across in New Straits Time – ACA officers posed as ‘tea boys’ at Puspakom, I really wonder if the big fish will be so stupid.
There’s no wrong in letting people know what they’ve done and achieved because if they don’t, people will start to complain about ACA being useless…bla bla bla, spending our money, bla bla bla. That is why nobody actually blamed them even though they ALWAYS announce their results to the press.
BUT BUT BUT………This latest article from NST is somehow….STRANGE. Why? Firstly, when they said “undercovers”….doesn’t that mean they are directly telling everyone that there are spies in PUSPAKOM (and not outside PUSPAKOM, as in the clients, etc)? OK, if I’m a PUSPAKOM officer and I saw this NST posting about “new joiners” becoming “teaboys” (or “wardens”, “admin staff”, etc) who are actually spies from ACA…….. I would certainly refrain myself from getting involved in anything related to bribes for a while. Just to be safe. Once everything has calm down, then maybe i will return to my “bribe” thingy.
That’s it. The ACA will only manage to catch those few people because they’ve announced to everyone that the people who reported the “bribes” are actually ACA spies INSIDE PUSPAKOM.
It is like assassinating an enemy ruler and telling him “hey, my assassins are in your country to kill you!” Of course my enemy would start to find bodyguards to surround him or remain anonymous/hidden.
Common sense, no?
*Sighs* I know ACA is proud and glad of what they did….and as a Malaysian, I’m glad for them too. But..it’s just VERY WEIRD if they start to behave like this – to announce to people where their spies are. =_=
