Olympic 2008 Taekwondo: Cuban kicked referee

with 4 comments

It was a bronze medal match and the Cuban Matos Angel Valodia was leading 3-2 against the guy from Kazakhstan. Then he injured his toe or feet (or leg). And the physios came to give treatment. But according to the regulation, you need to finish the treatment within 60 seconds.

And the Cuban’s treatment lasted more than that. He stood up AFTER the bell rang. His coach and him were very unhappy and angry…….argued with the Swedish judge……. but after about 1-2 minutes pause, the judge awarded the match to the guy from Kazakhstan.

Suddenly, the huge Cuban gave a roundhouse kick to the face of the Swedish judge.

=_= WTF !? (this doens’t stand for World Taekwondo Federation) You represented your country and now you brought shame to your country. If he did not attack the judge, he might have a chance of filing an appeal. And what was his idiotic coach doing?! The coach should be stopping him but the coach didn’t!

This was such a disgrade, such a shame. I used to learn Taekwondo, though i seriously sux at it, and i know that anyone who learns Taekwondo should never use our skills unnecessarily except for self-defense or competition purpose.

As a result, both the coach and the Cuban are banned for life from World Taekwondo Federation. Well done. Bravo. You 2 have brought shame to your country,

Olympic Malaysia’s Che Chew Wan lost in Taekwondo

with 3 comments

First of all, would like to apologize for my typo in the last post. It’s not Semi-final, but Quarter-final. Was rushing out. =_= My bad. I’ve changed the title.

But it doesn’t matter anymore. Our country’s final hope for a medal has now gone. Our Taekwondo representative Che Chew Wan has lost to a Korea-born Norwegian. 3-1 was the final score. Here’s the report – http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/INF/TK/C73/TKW167301.shtml#TKW167301

Her opponent wasn’t that good…..played defence and counter-attack. The referee penalised the opponent 4 times, minus 2 points (otherwise it would be 5-1).

Well, lost is lost. Good try though.

That brings an end to our country’s fight for another medal in the Beijing Olympic 2008. Kudos to those who’ve tried their best but I’m sure our country can do better.

Hope our country can do better in the Olympic 2012 (come on people, Thailand and Indonesia have 1 gold each! ).

UPDATE: She lost again during the match with the Egyptian Abd Rabo Noha. If she’ve won, she could still stand a chance of winning a bronze. But she didn’t. She lost 5-1. Here’s the match report – http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/INF/TK/C73/TKW167352.shtml#TKW167352

UPDATE: The Cuban who got disqualified for taking too long in nursing his injured toe, should be banned for life for kicking the referee. How disgraceful!

Malaysia Taekwondo in Olympic Quarter Final !

with 6 comments

Watched our Malaysia’s Taekwondo representative (the only one left), Che Chew Wan fought against her young opponent from Uzbekistan Karimova Evgeniya. It was a tough match. Che went down 0-1 in the first round. Her younger opponent was very fast and very aggressive.

But in the second round, she dominated 4-0. Pinpoint accuracy kicks (2 round house resulted in 1 point each and an axe kick to the face resulted in 2 points) helped her to regain the lead in the match. 4-1 the secore in the second round.

In the final round, her younger opponent became desperate. And of course, when you’re desperate…..you’ll end up becoming very very aggressive. =_= And the shriek…..(not shout, mind you).….kinda scary from the Uzbekistan youngster. Che only managed to score once (fortunately) as it was quite obvious she was a bit tired. Her opponent managed 3 points.

Final score 5-4 to Che Chew Wan.

Here’s the match report – http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/INF/TK/C73/TKW167402.shtml#TKW167402

She’ll be fighting the Korean-born Norwegian Solheim Nina at 3pm in the quarterfinal. It’ll be a difficult match since the Norwegian is quite a good fighter. Good luck to our fellow Malaysian!

Olympic 2008: Malaysia’s last hope?

with 4 comments

Malaysia’s outing in the Beijing Olympic 2008 has not been very good. We’ve only managed to obtain 1 silver medal through our hero Lee Chong Wei. To say that Beijing Olympic 2008 outing is very poor is quite an understatement because the silver medal is actually our nation’s first medal in 8 years. Yes, we came home empty handed in 2000 and 2004.

We’ve seen great improvements in some of our athletes especially in archery (beating a Korean archer is not an easy feat) and cycling. Before this, we were relatively unknown in these fields.

Anyway, our country still has few hopes left in Olympic to clinch another medal. We have 2 participants in the women’s Taekwondo event which will begin tomorrow. Here are the detail of the matches involving our representatives:

August 21, 10:15am

Women -57kg Prelimin. Round of 16
TurkeyTANRIKULU Azize vs MalaysiaELAINE Teo

August 23, 9:15am

Women +67kg Prelimin. Round of 16
MalaysiaCHE Chew Chan vs UzbekistanKARIMOVA Evgeniya

Never underestimate our Taekwondo team. I feel that they do have prospects of getting into the semi-finals. :D But then again…..I used to have a feeling that I will strike TOTO 6D but it didn’t happen. =_=

There’s another athlete who is currently contesting (not sure if the result is out) in the women’s 20km walk – Yuan Yu Fang. Hope she can do well.

I think that’s all for our nation’s outing in the Beijing Olympic 2008. All the best to the remaining representatives!
