You never know until you’ve reached the other side
People always say we should appreciate what we have now…because grass always looks greener on the other side and we might not like it when we go over the other side. I must agree with this because most often than not, grass ALWAYS looks greener on the other side but actually is not.
But the question here is…how is it possible for us to know that the grass IS greener on the other side or not without actually being there? How can we know the ‘now’ we are experiencing is actually very nice without experiencing other things? How can we know our current job is very rewarding if we don’t try another job in another company?
Yes, we CAN learn to appreciate and be grateful of what we have but there’s no way we can truly understand how fortunate we are NOW without trying other things. We need something, another experience, to compare – we need to go over the other side, the so-called “greener” side. Only when we are there, can we actually say …. “Well, guess it is not that green over here after all. Maybe I should just go back and do what I used to do”.
Similarly, if you think you are not doing what you like to do now, and want to change a job to do something you truly like….then do it. By saying “do it”, I mean you can either go full-time or do it part-time, as a hobby. After you try doing it, you will know whether you truly like it if compared to your current job. If you don’t try, you will never know.
That is why I believe in one thing – experience many things and keep what you like. If you don’t experience or try it, you will never know if the grass is really greener on the other side…or not.
p/s…. there are certain things that you should not try because you will only have one chance in life – your loved ones. If you don’t appreciate them now and choose to ignore them, you might end up living a life full of regrets once they’re gone. Remember that life is fragile. For this case, I choose to believe that grass is never greener on the other side.

I’ve got a friend , who wants to make alot of money . He has this “I will try anything” attitude .
He went from Insurance , MLM , football betting , Forex , Buying Shares , Investing in small businesses …
All of it didn’t turn out well , and he calculated he has wasted almost RM100,000 and 4 years of his lifetime .
I think it is okay to try , but we have to determine what do we really want , before trying .

Yeap, when i say “try to go over to the other side”, i do mean think or do some research before you jump over especially if the other side requires money or investment. once you are pretty sure it’s a good option, then just do it.
As for your friend, I’m sure he’s not alone and I’m sure many people have told him not to go into those ventures. Yet he persisted. This happened to some of my friends also. They just wouldn’t listen to anyone. But after they went in, lost so much of money, then only they realized that it’s just not going to work.
And the last part would be for them to call it quit, and go back to where they came from and start all over again.
“You never know until you’ve reached the other side”
I can relate to this from the Chinese immigrant scene in America. Many of them, especially those from rural China, come expecting a land of milk and honey where money is just there for the taking and people would hold hands and kiss around every corner. Its not that they didn’t do research. They do – all of it from Hollywood movies & tv shows.
What they can’t figure out they filled with lots of wild imagination.
And then when they reach America, wham! They work like slaves and are paid like slaves, they kiss round the corner and get hauled up by the cops for public indecency. Some end up hiding in basements for years, terrified they’ll get busted for illegal immigration.
That’s when they finally understand that the greener grass on the other side is sometimes made of plastic.

I think not only them, I’ve seen a lot of people who always think European countries are better than Asian countries. So they sold all their stuff here and migrated over, only to find that those countries are not so nice after all.
But seriously, if you’ve never gone over there, you will never know whether it’s shit or candy. So what one needs to do is to plan accordingly so that when one really goes over to the other side, he can still return to where he came from if things don’t go well. And that is what this post is all about.
