Are you creating values for the society?
Whenever we do something, we need to ask ourselves one question – are we creating values for the society? Or are we creating values just for ourselves? I believe most of the things we do are for the latter but I also believe that it is important to ask the first question.
All of us have a role (or roles) to play in this world especially to our family and society. If everyone starts to think about creating values for the society, I am very sure together we can make this world a better place.
Here are some simple examples to get you started:
- Recycle
- Donate blood
- Encourage people to donate blood
- Teach others things that you are good at / share your knowledge
- Motivate people
- Make people laugh
- Help out those in need including your customers
- Start a motivational blog
- Stop eating shark’s fin
- Organize sporting events to promote healthy living
- Turn off the tap if you’re not using
- Turn off the lights if you’re not in the room
And the list can go on and on and on. But these are very simple examples which should be good enough to get you started. The more ‘advanced’ examples would be things like how your current job can contribute to the society or are you creating things which can improve the life of others, etc.
Or are you just trying to protect yourselves and reap off benefits just for yourselves? If that’s the case, don’t you think it’s time for you to do your part for the society?
I understand that not every job can contribute to the society especially those in the financial sector. But if our own job can’t do that, then we just have to spend some of our personal time to do it.
Remember that it’s never too late to start creating values for the society. Simple acts could go a long way.

Someone once told me – you should spend more on unnecessary things so you can help create jobs that will feed a lot of hungry people in China. Spend more, help more. What do you think?

most often than not, the money would end up with people who are already rich.
But will those money really go to those in need?

Haha, yeap that’s what I thought when I read about Warren Buffet’s million-dollar lunch auctions, the proceeds going to charity of course. One wonders how much of those million dollars actually end up in the intended charities.

Nice post, Alvin. Actually u hv quite a number of good/informative post which is good for people to know/learn. Keep it up!
Creating good/correct/right values to the society/family is important for a better world to stay. It’s just like creating heaven/paradise on earth.
The most advanced example people should take note is to eliminate the four main destructive substances, namely meat, alcohol, illegal drugs and tobacco that cause the most harm to humanity and our planet. If people turned around, change their habit then it will become constructive/positive n it can offer immeasurable benefit n great change! Be a leading example. Promote forgiveness and peace; and then all other troubles like poverty, conflict, even financial crises and pandemics, will also subside.

Thanks Stella. By the way, which Stella are you?
I think asking people to cut those 4 away will be a little bit difficult. If possible, cut a little bit of the 4. To me, that will be a big enough improvement over now. Also, promote forgiveness….we tend to hate and dislike things and people too much.

am the one that always say about vegetarian can save our planet at Damien’s site.
Yea it’s a big difficult to ask people to cut those 4 away. But it’s for their own goods. Well if people do not listen, then i have not much to say, then take care. it doesn’t matter. People just don’t realize that if they don’t change for better, this lesson/shadow will always follow them wherever they go, even until their death n reincarnation to other places until one day they realize the mistake they’ve make, wake up n change for the better. That’s how we correct ourselves.
yes it’s also hard to have this forgiveness quality. But as u try to forgive n forget , somehow u will feel your loving heart will expand a little n u can sleep better.
p/s hey Alvin, actually i’ve written quite a long words at one of your post. But it’s somehow blocked it n don’t let it to publish out. Is it not appropriate to publish or did u received it or maybe it’s blocked automatically when see this/that sentences. i don’t understand? pls clarify. Thanks.

@stella
I think we should make changes progressively…slowly. One step at a time.
Oh ya, for your comment, I don’t think I’ve actually received any. Normally for first time commenter, I will hold it for moderation but once it has been approved, your subsequent comments will be automatically approved as well. Maybe you didn’t submit it properly?
