People should learn from dogs especially in terms of loyalty
The title will surely raise some eyebrows.
What I mean here is loyalty. We all know that dogs are very loyal animals who will always stand by their owners. The perfect example is the famous Japanese dog Hachikō who waited for his owner for 10 years without realizing that his owner has passed away due to stroke.
It was a story which has touched the hearts of millions and it is still very popular now. I believe that a lot of us have a thing for ‘loyalty’ but sadly, it is also something which is becoming rare in our society nowadays.
- A job hopper who will change job to get better salary even if the company treats him very well.
- A company which decided to cut its hardworking employees off just because the CEO screwed up.
- A company which ignores the fact that a particular employee has worked more than 40 years for it.
- A lover who decided to ditch his/her spouse of over 5 years just because the person is no longer interesting.
- A security guard which is paid to look after a warehouse ended up as the thief.
- A son who decided to place his parents at old folks home without asking them.
- or an old friend who decided to betray his friend for a few thousand dollars.
- etc.
The list can go on forever. It’s really obvious that as our society progresses or so-called “improves”, the level of trust will deteriorate, and thus making the word ‘loyalty’ more like a myth. Perhaps this got something to do with the greediness in us? Or perhaps it has something to do with the unlimited number of choices we have nowadays (good friend selling 1000, but someone I don’t know selling 500 for the same thing. Which one will you go?).
Well, I don’t know about you guys but I personally feel that this is quite a bad sign. With the direction that we (as a society) are moving to, I do wonder if people will still trust each other in the future.
Hopefully, more and more people will read about the story of Hachikō and maybe..just maybe…..bring ‘loyalty’ back to the picture.

yeah bro . i totally agree with you ..
the world is constantly telling us ..
“live life to the max” “live life to the full”
“get a better boyfriend/girlfriend” “go for that dream job”
personally i think it is a very short term gain , long term lost kinda thinking

Good post. When you use your Bonuslink loyalty card, ask yourself what makes you loyal to the place that you’re buying stuff from.
A question for gapnap: am curious to know what living life to the full mean. Care to share?

wa..Alvin ah Alvin.
I know we need to acknowledge all these issues. But sometimes ignorance is bliss. If we keep on focusing on the human’s flaws, it’ll be endless, disappointing and painful. You’ll lose hope you know!
Looking things at a different perspectives might do wonders! All your posts have been focusing on the negative sides of a story. (sorry if I have offended u)

yeah, if people don’t change the way they feel for themselves and other people, things will not change. it’ll always be short term gain and long term pain
@ Damien
Thanks. Bonuslink? Mmm, i use it without checking how much point I have. LOL. I use SHELL because i can find the stations easily. Oh, and I always say no to PETRONAS. Just say I don like to associate green with fuel

Different people have different opinions. I feel my way of contributing is to make people aware of such things. Most people just pass through their life feeling ignorant and oblivious to their surroundings. They just ‘go with the flow’.
I’m not saying that you should start worrying about things you cannot change. Tat’s just waste of time. But for me, such things are necessary and it does help for us to think about it a little.
If a little negativity can wake people up and make the world a better place, why not?
Oh, and most of my posts can be positive or negative depending on how you see it. I do have people telling me the posts are quite motivating.

I would regard this post of yours is a very realistic post. No -ve or +ve connotation. The world and its populations are getting more impure as the years pass by. Thus the virtues in majority us are degrading. Obsession of commodities over human values is the trend now. This is fixed.

i have no idea . i just saw that phrase in some beer advertisement ..was it Guinness ?
whatever is it , i rather see the beauty of imperfection . rather than picking on the smallest things and go whine about how i can improve this and that and be not happy

Gapnap: the beauty of imperfection? Haha, I use that phrase to describe syncopation on a music score.
Its risky behavior in music but they give off good vibes if you know how to make the parts gel. Not everyone appreciates that tweak though.
Alvin: I share Eagle’s view. I think of a blog post as an art piece. Someone will say its nice and another will say its ugly. More developed minds will understand that and remain objective.
Anyway, your blog’s visited mostly by thinking people I presume. Those allergic to reality will probably stick to rave and fan boy blogs and there’s tons of them out there.

I agree. No more loyalty these days. But sometimes you can’t blame people. Who does not want a better job with a higher salary even if the current job is good and well treated by the company?
People are also fickle minded these days. They lose interest in one thing and want to pursue other things.
Loyalty has definitely gone to the dogs! (pun intended)

Yea, that’s why I feel sooner or later, our own downfall with be in the hands of none other than ourselves.
I’m just hoping that this kind of awareness can reach more people. At least, people will start to realize and change (even by 1%) for the better.
@ gapnap
they should look at their priorities, and CHANGE things. whining about how they can change things don help if they don’t even want to act on it.
people who pick on every little thing n whine about it have no life.
@ Damien
But my objective here is not to be popular in the first place, it’s to contribute in my own way. To start topics which will make people think. I think your blog has the same objective.
Yea, my blog is not as popular as gossip blogs or rant blogs or fan blogs, er…actually, my blog is not popular at all
…oh but your blog also has another obj – to promote Spongebob.
@ foongpc
It depends on how much higher. Remember that the higher you are paid, the more things you are supposed to do and more responsibilities. I do know people who are satisfied with their pay (ok…they do complain a bit) and are not willing to jump to an executive role because they jst don’t like it. And believe me, team spirit and how the company treats you are 2 very important factors in retaining employees.
Money? It does matter but not to everyone. Try getting a job which pays very well but has to face rude insults every day and even has high possibility that you’ll be given your marching order within 24 hours. Or have a boss who treats u worse than a dog.

No offence, I am not here to insult or whatever! Peace ok?
Maybe different people have different perspective.
I know how ignorant people can be. I’ve seen enough or even talked enough about it. And it’s really tiring to point it out to them anymore.
But that doesn’t mean I will go with the flow. If they don’t want to change, we can’t do anything, can we? So we can only change ourselves. xD

Relax. We never say you’re insulting or anything. Just discussion.
Yes, I do agree that different people have different opinions. And I also agree that we should not change other people. In fact, we cannot. The only change should come from within. They themselves have to change. What we can do is just to make them aware of certain things, which will make the likelihood of them changing higher.

Hi, my name is Alvin Lim also. In order to avoid confusion, I use my full name
I guess those things are happen naturally when a city population increase more and more? I am born in a nature small town and the chances to meet those people are very less to zero. A city like KL could have multiply by that.
The society still very healthy compare to other country but just lack of security in some places only. A friend has cheat me before but I left it be. Just don’t want contact this person again. What I can said is, there are still a lot of good people out there and try to focus on positive thinking and things and people around will start to change to good eventually.
Sometimes, complains and critics were good way to improve a services or people. But too much is not really a good sign. Thats why we need a balance in our life.
Hope I am not insulting here also

It’s a bit weird to address it to another Alvin Lim. LOL.
Actually, people who have cheated us before shall be ignored by us but not permanently. I’ve been betrayed by my friends many years ago but well, they’re okay now. People do change anyway.
Just learn to protect yourselves first of course. That’s the most important thing.
Our society is healthy but it’s also unhealthy due to the mentality of the people here. We are still stuck with the “3rd world country thinking”. Try to observe the people around you esp if you’re in KL.
Complaints can be bad because it’s negative. But sometimes, if you focus too much on the positive and don’t be open-minded enough to notice the negative things, it’s more like oblivious than positive-minded.
Actually, this post is to make people aware of the society they are living in. And the purpose is solely to make people aware and if possible, change for the better. That’s all. I wouldn’t want to complain about stuff i cannot change. That’s why I’ve never touched politics in this blog.
