Know your responsibilities to the society

with 6 comments

Multi-level Marketing (MLM), stock market, unit trust fund and chemical waste (to name a few). What do these things have in common? Let’s take a look.

MLM – you earn money by introducing other people into the business. If they don’t work hard in this not-so-honest business, their money will be wasted just like that.

Stock market – some bosses want to list their companies on the stock market in order to raise capital. And some of them do not have a proper plan in mind. Their only goal is to raise money from the investors. This would result in the investors investing in an “empty can”.

Unit trust fund – some, if not most, unit trust agencies charge a pretty high service charge if the investor plans to sell/buy. If you minus off those service charges, the investor concerned actually does not earn that much in the end but the agencies earn a lot.

Chemical waste - certain people earn money by producing stuff using cheap and unsafe materials. Once the stuff has been produced, the waste is all the unwanted chemical which will kill our planet in the long run.

I want to make a clarification here. The examples above might not be 100% suitable and might not apply to all. However I do notice that as time goes by, more and more people are resorting to the methods listed above (some worse).

So what do all of them have in common?

Earn money ruthlessly, irregardless of the consequences their actions would bring to the society/planet.

I think this is quite a worrying trend. More and more people are getting greedy and desperate. In order to achieve what they want (most of the time money), they care nothing about other things. Some of them might think “Who cares about the society? They’re still buying my products! As long as I can reap profit from this, I don’t mind.  And as long as I can give them cheap products, they won’t care too!”

I don’t know about these so-called “business” people, but for me, I would not want to earn money in such a way. In my opinion, all of us should play a role in HELPING the society and the planet, not harming it. Why build your own happiness on other people’s sorrow? Just because you can enjoy that short-term happiness? What about other people? Your short-term happiness might end up becoming their long-term pain.

Remember,  always know your responsibilities to your society, to the generations to come and to this planet. Understand well your role in this world and let’s try to make this world a better place (and yes, if we don’t do that now, it might become too late…or perhaps, it’s already too late?).

And also… you don’t need to resort to those methods to be rich. :)

  1. I believe we ought to focus on changing some existing cultures we have here in Malaysia. We may keep the good ones of course.

In order to play our own role in the society, perhaps we should make ourselves as their example, by showing them the good attitude, non-procrastination-time-delaying mindset, be innovative and creative on how to earn money the right way.

Lately, we’ve seen in the news saying about loan sharks. Well, that isn’t new at all to me. And not to mention about theft snatcher cases. All i can say is that, these are ways where people want to have ‘big bucks’ in such short time. I mean, we can’t really blame the loan sharks too, but no doubt that their methods are way too violent, but what about those who took the money? Why did they take them in the first place? So i’d say, proper financial management is a must!! Hence, come with proper attitude, and also discipline!

Economy is bad, yeah i get that, everyone is affected. But that doesn’t mean that you have to be too desperate to have money to spend on things. You just have to be smart on how to deal with it. Thats it.

    End.

  2. Ah, many companies get around the ethical question with a program called CSR or corporate social responsibility. They announce a program to collect old stuff for recycling, a visit to the orphanage etc. The PR people often lead this with the press in tow so there’ll be pictures of the CEO watering a plant, giving a token check to a disabled kid, etc. Proof that the organization cares.

I reckon that for every organization that gives a generous % of their earnings to charity, about 100 do it as a marketing stunt, knowing that people are more likely to buy from companies they believe are socialy responsible. And this has led to a growth of charity acts designed to rake in more profits, which is why in some companies, the CSR program has shifted from PR to the marketing department. :D

How to spot the real ones from the fakes? Look at their financial statement and see how many % of their annual income actually goes to social development programs.

Greed. Some people say money is the root of all evil. I say, don’t blame the money, blame yourselves. Without greed, you wouldn’t want the money that much as to borrow them from these cruel loan sharks.

It’s all about people and their mentality. If they can achieve what they want and get to the place they want – their so-called utopia or heaven – then they will do whatever they can to achieve that and that includes making other people suffer more.

Yea, I don’t understand why these companies need to do so much publicity on the newspapers, etc…….jst because they jz planted a tree, or jst because they paid so and so money to ask their people to help the society? bullshit. if u wanna help, do it with a sincere heart and don ask for anything in return.

tats why i respect my sister’s company. they do hv such charity stuff and even reward ppl for doing charity. but they never publicize it. i donno until my sis told me about it.

    @ gapnap
lampu burger? last time my fren kept asking me to join. i said the model is completely wrong. true, u got stuff to sell and might benefit other ppl, but as far as i know, our gov din say that these products actually help the ppl using them.

furthermore, if they don recruit more members under them, they don earn. this in itself is wrong. they are earning by recruiting members, not by selling beneficial products.

and ho, i respect u for saying that and coming back alive :P but if u change it to “the product is evil, u r evil. i don wan to be u”. i doubt u can come back alive :P
