Try not to demotivate the people around you
Good people will motivate themselves by reading books or articles or just by practicing things like self-assuring phrases. There are tonnes of way to motivate oneself provided the person has the will to do it.
But these things do take efforts and time.
Most of the time, when these individuals are trying their best to motivate themselves, there will be people around them who are negative-thinking people. Honestly speaking, these negative-thinking people will only make things worse by constantly bombarding them (the good people) with negative remarks or complaints about how bad life is treating them.
That’s why one of my principles in life is never to demotivate the people around me. If I can motivate them, good. If I cannot, then the only thing that I can do is NEVER to demotivate them.

If I may suggest, demotivation comes from the loss of self confidence. If for some reason we decide to let it go when we hear bad news, it is we who let it go, not the news reader who may just be a talking head on TV.
If we understand the mechanism that causes demotivation then we can do something to stop it. We need to understand why are we so quick to push our self-confidence over the cliff. Is our confidence in ourself so weak that anything can knock it over?
If demotivation stems from our own discomfort with ourself, then its a sign that our foundation is not as strong as we thought. We have to know why our present beliefs and principles has led us to crumble so quickly. We may have to re-engineer certain things.
A tree with weak roots is quick to fall in strong winds. A tree with strong roots will stand firm in any weather.
Hope that helps.

I do agree with you that the foundation has to be strong. A strong foundation will not be ‘disturbed’ by all these negative influence. My foundation is not strong currently. The news and stuff are okay, but when people just keep complaining about negative things around me, I will get pissed off. It happened too many times. LOL.
Anyway, what I’m saying here is that you cannot expect everyone to have that strong foundation. Most people don’t. The least we could do is not to make their foundation weaker than it already is.
And even if a tree has strong roots, having a typhoon 24/7 and 365 days a year…will uproot it too.
