Cherish the NOW
Most of us worry about the future and what it holds for us, myself included. And at the same time, we also think about the things we’ve done wrongly in the past. When you add those 2 together, you will understand that there’s quite a lot of “content” for our brain to work on at any given time. In the end, we somehow start to neglect the NOW.
But what matters most is in fact, the things happening currently in our life – the NOW.
That’s why I’ve been trying to urge people try and avoid the mistake of not focusing on the NOW because you will never get another NOW in your life again. Start asking yourselves questions such as:
- Is the time passing by a bit too fast?
- Am I not using my time properly?
- What have I achieved in the last 10 years?
- What do I want to achieve in the next 10 years? How far is it from there?
- Can I actually change anything by feeling regret over the things I’ve done in the past?
- Will worrying about something which has not happened in the future, help me?
If you haven’t thought of such questions, maybe it’s time for you to do so. It’s still not too late.
By saying so, I don’t mean that you need to focus ONLY on the now. Learning from your past mistakes and planning for the future are things you need to do in order to improve your life. But those are completely different things if compared with dwelling in the past, and worrying about the future.
So, start focusing on the NOW. Cherish and appreciate the things thrown at you (big and small) – the caring family and friends, the stable income, the chirping of the birds in the morning, the blue sky, etc. Also, start spending more quality time with your family and friends too because you may never know when will be the last day you see them. And most importantly, enjoy the life you have now. Smile more, sing more, dance more and laugh more.
Hope it helps.
p/s…. I should really stop cursing the idiot in my office. Hahhaa.
p/s…. after losing the 3 years courtship thingy, and losing nearly 4-5 months of my pay in investment…I think I can be considered as a very optimistic person. I’m quite surprised at how cheerful I’ve become in the past few years.

There’s a joke I used to pull with my boss in my old job. Since we can’t know the future and shouldn’t worry about it why bother with all these sales forecasts. Let’s live in the present and not harp on the fact that we failed to reach our target last year. Hehe.
Truthfully I love living in the now because its when I’m truly free of all worry. But its only effective if I’ve not done anything in the past that can come and bite me. I hate having my happy moment interrupted by bill collectors that come knocking on my door.

That’s why we have to plan for the future. Worrying and planning can be quite different.
