People like to feed on their negative feelings

Let’s face it, human beings are more attracted to negative news than positive ones. If you’re a blogger, try posting topics on the depression…or the hopeless state of the politics….or the price hike….or anything which is making the world sounds pretty hopeless. And guess what, you’ll get a lot of visitors to your blog.

We tend to find people to agree with us. Rather than finding people who are more positive-minded, we look for people who are negative-minded so that we can complain “together” with them.

But that does not solve anything – nothing at all. Yet, why do people want to do it? Don’t you think it gets a bit tiring complaining about all the stuff in the world which you can find no solution?

I’m one who does not like negative news. I don’t like to read about the hopeless state of the politics or the price hike on food… etc. To me, it’s too demotivating esp during the start of the day. It’s good to know, but it’s not a MUST to know. You can call me ignorant or being oblivious……but that’s me. I prefer to look into things i can change.

Maybe…just maybe…people should learn to be more positive-minded and lead a happier life? Life is short, do you really want to complain about things you cannot change for the rest of your life? Or would you rather look at the world from another perspective?

p/s…. and for those people who always search for “how to get revenge on your boss?”…yea, i do get a lot of those EVERYDAY. Your best bet is to check the labor law department. If they cannot do anything, then you can’t do much as well. Malaysia don’t really have a strong labor law thingy. Good luck. :)

p/s…. if you want to complain about things, then make sure you can do something to change. If the ball is not in your court, then there’s nothing much you can do. You can kick, hit, jump all you want…..but you won’t be able to hit or touch it.

p/s…. sorry for not being able to produce any comic strips lately. been very very busy. rushing something for the UK counterpart….already under heavy fire from them.

p/s…. HINT HINT, there will be a Junior Manga Competition held by a local magazine and co-sponsored by MDEC. The prizes are quite good. I’ll post up more on this later once I get more information. I’m one of the judges by the way. :P

  1. Yup, bad news grabs attention and newspapers understand that very well. On avoiding bad anything, out of 10 things you can avoid, there’ll be 1 or two you can’t. And avoidance takes up a lot of energy. What I try to develop is a neutral attitude, the idea being that success or failure doesn’t shake me that much. I’m hardly an expert but if one can look at unpleasantness in the eye as steadily as one can see a million dollars, then one is strong. I’d rather face an unfair life with strength than weakness.

  2. Have you realized every time we pick nicknames for somebody else, they are always focused on the weaknesses of those people? Let’s say that person is fat, naturally we call him FATTY instead of smarty or whatever even if that fat person is super smart. Or let’s say a person who is caring and kind super skinny, we call him BAMBOO, but we just don’t give nicknames to his kindness! HAHA!

that’s a very very good comment from you. Sometimes, having that ‘neutral’ attitude towards things can be very very important….esp during tough times.

Let’s hope there are more people who think and behave like you here. :)

ahaha, tats why i never like to give nicknames to people. not even when i was a kid. i know tat if i don wan people to do tat to me, i shld not do it on other people as well. no point picking people’s weaknesses and hv a laugh at them.

  5. I totally agree with you here Alvin. People do tend to lean towards the neagative. I believe the reasoning for this is they are bomb barded by negative things going on in the world around us. Media loves to feed on that stuff.

For personal negative complainers like myself LOL I do it just to release it. It does help to get it all out and it certainly helps knowing there are others who flock to you with the same sort of problems. Sometimes good advice is given and acted upon too in these situations.

It is great for someone to be positive all the time. I don’t buy anyone being able to be that way ALL the time. Life is a roller coaster ride and that means you go up and you go DOWN throughout the journey. Life is short, but the negative things are part of that short life.I think it is best to confront the negatives in order to attempt to turn them into positives. That is just me though.

People can complain about gas price, food price, etc. I am the person who not only complains about these certain things; I take action to try to get those things changed. Whether that be writing letters, calling congressmen, etc.

This was a great post. I’ll stop by again sometime, Take it easy Alvin!

Media feeds us with negative news everytime….because people wanna hear. And now…even if u want to be positive, it’s pretty hard since u r always surrounded by negativity.

I only complain if someone else started it :P Mmm, sometimes, when u complain about someone, it will not sound very frustrating or annoying…..it might even sound funny. My friends always complain about this friend we know…..and we always ended up laughing. Guess that guy’s existence in our life is not all that bad :P

Yes, keep complaining will not get u anywhere. It will only make things worse by demotivating urself further. Try to look at what u can do with the current situation. Sometimes, ur efforts might go unnoticed / wasted…but i think it’s worth a try.

Thanks for dropping by JO :)
