Eye contact is very important during presentation

Being an expert in presentation is a very difficult thing to do. To some people, it is easy (especially if you have to do it everyday). But for some, it is a nightmare to talk in front of so many people.

There are all kinds of presentation method. But I’m not going to talk about that today. What I want to talk about today is about eye contact.

Ever notice how a certain company director always look to the sky when presenting? Or that senior manager who is not brave enough to look at people during his presentation? What about the “nerd” who uses the right tone and maintains eye contact during presentation?

In my opinion, maintaining eye contact during your presentation is very important. You need to engage the people in front of you to make sure that they are paying attention. Remember that you are not doing the presentation for the sake of doing it. You want people to focus and respect the speaker – you. Besides, maintaining eye contact also shows how confident you are in the presentation. Nobody would want to pay attention to a speaker who has no confidence in whatever he is talking about.

What about you? Have you experienced something like this?

I know it’s not easy to do a good presentation but practice makes perfect. :) Try to get more opportunity to present and I’m sure you’ll improve. :D

I was quite fortunate to have an “OKAY” presentation skill. I used to do a lot of presentation during university time. But i’ve become very rusty after graduating from the uni. =_=

I will cut down my comic to 2 times a week – Thursday and Sunday. I’m in the midst of preparing something. I’m actually learning how to prepare a game design document. Might want to try my luck as a game designer. :P

Yes. Very very true. No choice but only practice makes everyone the expert.

  3. Hence the reason why I was encouraging everyone to join in the Effective Presentation softskills training when it was still available previously.

The first exercise in that training was to maintain eye contact. You are supposed to give yourself 10 seconds to look at a person in the room. The important thing is not to “blip”, i.e. look up, down, left or right. i.e. move your eyes around as that shows you’re nervous and not interested in the audience.

Anyway, the exercise was fun as when we sat around the room in a U-shape, the “victim”(presenter) had to stand in the middle and look at every person in the room for 10 seconds each.

It’s a great exercise and you can do this even though you are doing a seated presentation. :-)

Anyway, the more presentations you do and if you are aware of your shortcomings and remind yourself to correct it at every presentation, you’ll improve. ;-)

haha, no more training ler. So no point talking about whether to ask people go or not. Wait till the company has a plan for it again, then we’ll start asking people to join. :P
